Make Better Decisions and Improve Intuitive Guidance: Ajna Chakra

The Ajna Chakra, commonly known as the Third Eye or Brow Chakra, is the sixth energy center in the chakra system, located in the space between the eyebrows. Representing intuition, insight, and inner wisdom, the Ajna Chakra serves as the seat of higher consciousness and spiritual awareness. In this article, we will delve into the significance of the Ajna Chakra, its attributes, signs of imbalance, and techniques to awaken and balance this profound energy center.

Understanding the Ajna Chakra

The Ajna Chakra is associated with the element of light and is symbolized by a vibrant indigo color, signifying deep insight, clarity, and spiritual vision. It serves as the bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, allowing us to access our inner guidance, intuitive wisdom, and higher knowing. When the Ajna Chakra is balanced and activated, we experience heightened perception, enhanced intuition, and a deep sense of connection to our inner truth and higher self.

Signs of Imbalance

An imbalanced Ajna Chakra can manifest in various physical, emotional, and mental symptoms. Some common signs of Ajna Chakra imbalance include:

Underactive Ajna Chakra

  1. Lack of clarity or direction in life
  2. Difficulty making decisions or trusting intuition
  3. Insomnia or sleep disturbances
  4. Feelings of confusion or disconnection from inner wisdom
  5. Poor intellect, attachment to belief systems rather than pursuit of truth

Overactive Ajna Chakra

  1. Overactive imagination or escapism
  2. Headaches, eye strain, or vision problems
  3. Overactive imagination or escapism

Healing and Balancing Techniques

To awaken and balance the Ajna Chakra and tap into our intuitive wisdom and spiritual insight, consider incorporating the following techniques into your daily practice:

  1. Third Eye Meditation
While such practices are extremely common today, the author does not recommend directly meditating on the third eye as it is already overactive due to overstimulation. Practices like thratak – concentrating on a flame without blinking can help improve eye-sight, third eye vision and concentration. However, without stable lower chakras, one will not know how to appropriately use the wisdom received through the third eye, and it can prove destructive.
  2. Yoga Asanas
Engage in yoga poses that stimulate and activate the third eye center, such as Child’s Pose (Balasana), Dolphin Pose (Ardha Pincha Mayurasana), or Supported Headstand (Salamba Sirsasana). These poses help to clear and balance the energy of the Ajna Chakra, promoting clarity and insight.
  3. Sound Healing
Chanting OM can deepen the spiritual quotient and detachment in a person. The Raga Bhup (Mohanam in Carnatic) and Bageshree purify the Ajna chakra and help calm down and give mental energy. The musical note associated with this chakra is A or Dha (Daivat).
  4. Pranayama and Breathwork
Practice pranayama techniques that focus on the breath and visualization, such as Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) or Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath). These practices help to purify the energy channels and awaken the subtle energy of the third eye.
  5. Mindfulness and Intuitive Awareness:
Cultivate mindfulness and present-moment awareness in your daily life, paying attention to subtle cues and inner nudges from your intuition. Trust in your inner guidance and allow it to guide you in making decisions and navigating life’s challenges with clarity and insight.
  6. Aromatherapy
Clary Sage and Jasmine help improve intuition and cognitive function, Chamomile soothes anxiety or mental disturbance due to an overactive chakra, Rosemary improves memory and clarity and Cinnamon improves concentration.
  7. The Role of Good Fats
The brain is nourished by fat. Including healthy fats in the diet and a practice like nasya before sleeping help improve intelligence, intuition and memory.
  8. Protect the Brow Chakra
The Ajna chakra is designed to receive logical and etheric information and due to the rampant overstimulation present in current lives, it is frequently over-loaded and drains out our energy. Protecting the third eye can improve energy levels, mental clarity and strengthen intuition.
    • Wearing a teeka like vibhuti, kumkum or sandalwood paste on the forehead prevents the third eye from leaking energy and protects the aura.
    • Practices like agnihotra also purify the energy field and heal obsessive thinking.
    • Cutting hair cuts one off from intuition, and leaving one’s hair down weakens the third eye, keeping the hair in a braid or a bun protects the third eye.
  9. Avoid things that block the Third Eye
    • Toothpastes with fluoride calcify the Ajna chakra. When seeking to improve intellect and intuition, it helps to use toothpastes without fluoride.
    • Overstimulation also clouds clarity of the mind, so avoiding gadgets or going on a media-detox every once in a while helps heal this chakra.
    • Wearing perfumes also weaken the third eye, and getting drunk or high create long term damage to the protection mechanisms of our energy field, exposing us to toxic energy attachments and mental distortions.

Conclusion

The Ajna Chakra, or Third Eye, holds the key to our intuitive wisdom, spiritual insight, and inner knowing. By nurturing and balancing the energy of the Ajna Chakra, we can awaken our intuitive faculties, deepen our connection to our higher self, and access the profound wisdom that lies within. Through practices such as third eye meditation, intuitive journaling, yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness, we can activate the transformative power of the Ajna Chakra and experience greater clarity, insight, and spiritual awakening in our lives.
