Dental clinic database hacked for Ransom demand
A Palo Alto dentist’s database was hacked and an unknown individual held its contents for $3,000 ransom, Palo Alto police said.
The break-in was discovered after the office computer system noted that data was corrupted by malware or spyware, he said.
“The files that were compromised were X-rays and associated notes. No personal identification information was taken as far as we know,” Reifschneider said.
This type of cyber attack is not unusual in the IT world, he added. The hacker typically freezes or corrupts data and generates an automatic message. If the victim wants to regain access they must remit a ransom, he said. NEWSLINK

Endodontic Access for success
First and the most vital step in Endodontic treatment is to design an access cavity which has proper shape, position and extension. The access cavity can make all the difference in success or failure of endodontic treatment. Underprepared access can make rct treatment difficult or impossible to do fully. Over prepared access can compromise restorability of tooth and its life in the mouth. Use of improper technique can also result in accidents like perforation and complicate the whole treatment. Hip bone marrow can now be used for teeth implants
Kokila Kothari’ had teeth crumbling by the age of 44. Last year, when her dentist told her that they would have to graft a bone from her hip bone on her jaw to implant false teeth, she thought they were joking. “I checked with a few other doctors and realised my dentist was telling me the truth,” said the Baroda resident.
Autologous Osteoblast Implanatation (ABI) involves removing “basic cells of the bone” from bone marrow of hip bone called osteoblasts, which helps the manufacture new bone cells. The doctor performed a biopsy of the bone to get the cells, which were then sent to Regenerative Medical Services Regrow laboratory at Lonavla. The laboratory then cultures the cells for five weeks. “About 4 ml of bone marrow which has about 20,000 to 100,000 cells can populate up to 48 million to 50 million cells,” said Dr Satyen Sanghvi, chief scientific officer, RMS Regrow. Scary teeth – if they are crooked

Over time, they contribute to tooth decay, gum disease and eventual tooth loss. Research shows that this bad bacterium can eventually play havoc throughout the body.” Bad bacteria can go from your mouth to your lungs and digestive system through the food you ingest.  MORE HERE

Oral bacteria defined
For the first time, scientists have defined the bacteria that inhabit multiple sites along the healthy human digestive tract in a large number of individuals.
As part of the Human Microbiome Project, a Forsyth Institute-led team examined bacteria found in adults at 10 sites along the digestive tract, including seven mouth surfaces, the tonsils, the throat, and stool samples (Genome Biology, June 13, 2012).
The bacterial communities from these 10 sites separated into four types based on which bacteria were present. This work will provide a valuable reference for future scientific study/ investigations.
