Gujrat Dental Colleges get notice on MDS Entrance
Gujarat University (GU) has issued a show cause notice to the Karnavati Dental College and Ahmedabad Dental College after it received a complaint that the two colleges had jointly organized an entrance test on the basis of which the management would grant admission in their postgraduate seats.
The two colleges have been asked to explain why their recognition should not be cancelled for grossly violating the rules and regulations of GU which stipulate that no college can conduct an entrance test on its own and all colleges should follow the merit list declared after the common entrance test conducted for PG medical students by GU. The college has 3 PG seats in every department (recognized).
3rd batch which was scheduled to have exams in MAY 2011 but the students are still waiting to appear in the exams. (There seems to be some problem with the college management and the University (Dr. B.R. Ambedkar univ. Agra). it’s almost one year the students have lost & there is no hope for the exams.

TIMES are certainly tough if you’re desperate enough to be looking for second-hand teeth.
But believe it or not, some people think there is a market out there.
Passers-by do a double take when they stroll past a shop and see a jar containing six sets of old dentures with the sign, “Secondhand teeth for sale”.
Dental technician Anthony O’Halloran said he helping people beat the recession blues with his window display at the Dental Laboratory on John Street in Limerick.
“I’m trying to make the world smile,” he said. “I don’t actually sell them. It is a joke but the reaction I’ve got since I put the jar in the window a year ago is incredible. People just burst out laughing.” LINK

Cuero dentist charged with inappropriate contact with patient.
A Cuero dentist has been charged with inappropriate contact with a patient during a dental procedure. Robert Barth was arrested on Jan. 24 and charged with assault by contact, according to a news release from the Cuero Police Department. LINK

A former Massachusetts dentist was sentenced to one year in jail Monday after he pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including using paper clips instead of stainless steel posts in root canals.

Wolters Kluwer Health (also owns Ovid) today announced that it has acquired Medknow Publications & Media Pvt. Ltd., a leading Scientific, Technical & Medical (STM) journal publishing operation headquartered in Mumbai, India and one of the largest open access publishers in the world. The acquisition expands Wolters Kluwer Health’s Medical Research business’ presence in key developing markets and supports its strategy to increase locally written content and incorporate more open access platforms into its business model. Amalgam ban “not feasible’ in short term- UK experts
International professors and the chief dental officer have agreed it would not be feasible for the use of dental amalgam to be banned in the short term but phasing down was the right approach.
Speaking to a meeting of MPs and senior stakeholders from the industry at the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry, CDO Barry Cockcroft said there had already been a reduction in the use of amalgam in the past 20 years with a new approach to restorative techniques and changing patterns of disease. New study in the Journal of the American Dental Association comparing a glass-ionomer sealant to a resin-based one in partially erupted molars found that glass-ionomer sealant may be a better choice (JADA, February 2012, Vol. 143:2, pp. 115-122).
Mobile Dental clinics launched in UAE
In an effort to improve access to dental care for people living in remote areas of the Emirate, the Dubai Health Authority has launched two new mobile dental units during the inauguration of the UAE International Dental Conference & Exhibition (AEEDC) at the International Convention & Exhibition Center. They are also intended to be used for holding dental awareness campaigns and teach children nationwide about the benefits of good oral health.
