Govt may adopt stringent law to regularize clinics
The dentist practicing in a one-room set-up across the road or the neighborhood doctor who doles out medicines for fever and chills may be covered under a Central law soon. The Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Delhi Government, is mulling the implementation of Clinical Establishments Act 2010, to regularize clinics and diagnostic centres across the capital. The existing law, Delhi Nursing Homes Registration Act, 1953, covers only 24X7 nursing and hospitals which deal in the allopathic system of medicine. MORE HERE

Uniformity in dental licensure in USA coming soon
Dental and hygiene students who take the American Dental Licensing Examination (ADLEX) will be able to apply for licenses in 42 U.S. states in 2013, following a new alliance with the Southern Regional Testing Agency (SRTA).
The addition of SRTA to the American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX) means that 34 dental schools and 78 dental hygiene schools are participating in the ADLEX, with results accepted for licensure in 42 states beginning next year, ADEX President Bruce Barrette, DDS, told DrBicuspid.com.
The alliance represents a step toward the creation of a uniform national exam, Dr. Barrette said.
The Florida Board of Dentistry recently voted to switch to the ADLEX, joining the majority of states with reciprocal agreements that allow out-of-state dentists to practice there. LINK

India Dental market ripe for Dental clinic Chain
Another area where Frost & Sullivan identifies opportunity is in the corporate dental chain segment. There is dearth of corporate dental care players in India that leverage their brand at a national level especially, in metros, tier I (Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad) and tier II (Surat, Chandigarh, Vizag) cities. Accessibility plays a major differentiating factor between the single doctor driven dental clinics and the corporate chain; as patients do not travel beyond a point for dental treatment. Nearly 95 percent of the market in India is owned and managed by single-doctor dentists. Hence, it is important for corporate dental chain players to make their presence felt and work on an expansion plan. Some of the healthcare groups have identified this opportunity and are moving in this direction. MORE

Nanocrystals Make Dentures Shine
Now Prof. Rüssel and his colleagues of the Otto-Schott-Institute for Glass Chemistry succeeded in producing a new kind of glass ceramic with a nanocrystalline structure, which seems to be well suited to be used in dentistry due to their high strength and its optical characteristics. The glass chemists of Jena University recently published their research results in the online-edition of the science magazine Journal of Biomedical Materials Research.
Materials, to be considered as dentures are not supposed to be optically different from natural teeth. At the same time not only the right colour shade is important. “The enamel is partly translucent, which the ceramic is also supposed to be,” Prof. Rüssel says. LINK
